B.A. Programme

The B.A. (Programme) introduced by the University of Delhi since 2004 aims at preparing the students for the world of work. The curriculum includes Language courses, Discipline courses, Foundation courses and Application courses.

The student completes all twelve courses over a three-year period by studying four courses each year. The distribution of various courses to be completed during the three-year period is follows

Language Courses

 

Streams

Language courses help enhance both linguistic skills and literary sensibility. BNC offers English and Hindi language courses. Students will study different streams of these courses depending on their prior knowledge of the concerned language.

Three different streams are offered in English

  • » Stream A, for students who have studied English up to Class XII.
  • » Stream B, for students who have studied English up to Class X.
  • » Stream C, for students who have studied English up to class VIII.

Two different streams are offered in Hindi

  • » Stream A, if they have studied Hindi up to Class XII.
  • » Stream B, if they have studied Hindi up to Class X.

Year wise Options in language courses

  • First Year
  • Language Course 1:
  • English (Stream A, B or C as may be applicable).
  • Language Course 2:
  • Hindi (Stream A, or B as may be applicable).
  • Second Year:
  • One out of the two language courses done during the first year.
  • Third Year:
  • One out of the two language courses done during the first year. but not in the second year.

Discipline Courses

Each B A Programme student is required to choose two discipline courses and study these during all the three years, subject to certain restrictions. (See the subject combination chart below for all available choices).

These courses are designed to provide the student with the basic knowledge of the concerned discipline in the context of contemporary developments.

Streams

Discipline courses are offered in two separate streams namely conventional and practical based. Generally students are required to choose one discipline course from the group of conventional subjects and another from the group of practicals based subjects with some exceptions. Foundation Courses

These are inter-disciplinary courses that provide basic knowledge of contemporary themes. Every student will opt for one of the following foundation courses in the second year.

  • » Human Rights, Gender and Environment.

Application Courses

These courses aim at skill enhancement and seek to impart practical or theoretical knowledge or in a very specific field of study. Students will opt for one of the following application courses in the third year.
