Highlights of major activities and achievements during the period 1.4.2008 to 31.3.2009

The College celebrated its annual three-day cultural festival ‘Navrang’ on 16, 17, 18 December, 2008. Luminaries from the world of Indian classical music and dance Ms. Nalini, Ms. Kamalini, Shri Jitendra Maharaj graced the occasion as chief guests on different days. Artists of national and international repute from the Delhi International Arts Festival under the leadership of Ms. Saraswati Rajgopalan played Veena, Mardung, Flute, Tabla, during the festival on 18th December 2008. Students from other Colleges like Shivaji College, Zakir Hussain College also participated in the festival.

The Department of Physical Education organised a physical fitness and training programme from July 2008 to December 2008. The Annual Sports Day of the colleges was held on 13th February 2009. Dr. J.S. Naruka, Director of Physical Education, University of Delhi graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Ms. Ruchika, B.A. IIIrd year (10198) was declared the best athlete of the year.

The 16th Annual Day and Prize Distribution Function was orgsanised on March 13, 2009. Mr. V.P. Rao, Director, Higher Education was the Chief Guest and Swami Nikhileshwarananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Vadodara Branch was the Guest of Honour.

During the year 2008-09, more than 150 students enrolled as volunteers in the National Service Scheme (NSS). This programme provides an opportunity to the students to understand the community they are working for, identify their needs and problems and strive to provide solutions.

NCC plays a pivotal role in the personality and overall development of students. The cadets from the college participated in various activities like National Integrated Camp (NIC), Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC), Vayu Sainik Camp, Thal Sainik Camp, Slithering, Firing, Blood Donation Camp, Pre-Republic Day Camps and the most prestigious Republic Day Camp. Cadet Aarti Sharma, JUO (Junior Under Officer) was awarded for her outstanding performance in the Republic Day Camp, Thal Sainik Camp and Amar Jawan Jyoti. Sgt. Rekha was awarded in the Thal Sainik Camp 08.

In B.A. Programme Ist year, 182 students out of the total 188 passed the examinations and the total pass percentage was 96.81%. In B.A. Programme IInd year, 148 students out of the total 160 passed the exam and the total pass percentage was 93.1%. In B.A. Programme IIIrd year, 125 students out of the total 156 passed the exam and their pass percentage was 80.1%.

For the academic session 2008-09, 227 students were enrolled in B.A. Programme first year; 59 students in B.Com first year; 30 in B.A. (Hons.) Hindi first year and 25 in B.Sc. Applied Physical Sciences Ist year. The OBC quota was implemented as per the University guidelines.

    • Dr. Rachna Mohan, Department of Home Science (Apparel Design & Construction) presented a paper on "How can the traditional retailers compete successfully with organized retail?" in the 10th International Seminar on "Organized Retailing: Boon or Bane" held on January 4-5, 2009 under the joint auspices of Delhi School of Professional Studies and Research, GGS Indraprastha University and Society for Human Transformation and Research (SHTR) at New Delhi.
